Federal Legislation that the Consortium Supports*: MIECHV
UPDATE: Congress reauthorized MIECHV for five years at level funding ($400 million annually through 2023) in February 2018 through the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018. The National Home Visiting Coalition has a summary of the reauthorization.
The Consortium* supports the reauthorization of Federal MIECHV funding, which expired on September 30, 2017. The LA County Board of Supervisors also supports MIECHV reauthorization. Please see the Board of Supervisors’ motion affirming the County’s support for MIECHV, unanimously passed on May 23, 2017.

Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visitation (MIECHV) Program:
“Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting supports pregnant women and families and helps at-risk parents of children from birth to kindergarten entry tap the resources and hone the skills they need to raise children who are physically, socially and emotionally healthy and ready to learn. HRSA [Health Resources and Services Administration], in close partnership with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), funds States, territories and tribal entities to develop and implement voluntary, evidence-based home visiting programs using models that are proven to improve child health and to be cost effective. These programs improve maternal and child health, prevent child abuse and neglect, encourage positive parenting, and promote child development and school readiness.” – Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) MIECHV page
